A significant step towards eliminating non-tariff barriers and facilitating seamless cross-border trade!

From 21–23 October 2026, the Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) and the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA) held their first bilateral meeting in Nairobi, focusing on practical and sustainable solutions to radioanalysis certification challenges affecting food traders in both countries.

Key milestone: The two institutions established a Joint Technical Working Group to develop a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on radioanalysis certification of food and related food chain products within three months.

Once concluded, the Agreement is expected to reduce duplicate testing, lower compliance costs, minimise border delays and facilitate smoother movement of food products between Tanzania and Kenya.

The meeting also explored a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen long-term institutional and regulatory cooperation.

The High Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania in Nairobi participated in the meeting as part of its continued commitment to advancing Economic Diplomacy, addressing non-tariff barriers and strengthening bilateral trade relations.
